Transitions can be added to the background or camera (they work smoother with backgrounds). Transitions

There are 4 filters available (Cooling, Warming, BlackAndWhite, YellowBrown). You can add filters either to the camera or background. Currently, you cannot set any parameters for them.  Important: use “filter None” to cancel any filter.<h4>Example:</h4>@bg in_yacht_midday_2 filter Warming@bg out_school_midday_8 filter None@cam at 1 1 filter Cooling@cam filter None

Filters

Like other movable objects on Spotlight, you can set movement animations for the camera. There are 4 ways of adding camera movement animations:● Default. You don’t have to add anything. Camera moves from point A to point B and stays there;● Loop. Camera moves from point A to point B, after reaching point B it appears at point A again and moves to point B;● Perpetual. Camera moves from point A to point B without reaching point B. Use it for looping backgrounds. Check the looping background note to see the example. It also can be used for the camera movement alongside speech bubbles and other actions;● Repeat. Camera constantly moves back and forth between point A and point B.

Camera animations

Use perpetual for scenes where the camera movement and some actions or speech bubbles happen simultaneously. However, the perpetual mode means constant moving, so to stop it and avoid any display bugs, use the restricting parameters, when the camera moves, the maximum distance does not exceed the edge of the scene.Specific parameters:min_x: the minimum coordinate spot on the X axis;max_x: the maximum coordinate spot on the X axis;min_y: Y axis minimum coordinate spot;max_y: the maximum coordinate spot on the Y axis;min_scale: the minimum size;max_scale: the maximum size.<h4>Example:</h4>​​@cam at 3 5 scale 1​​@cam move 10 5 scale 2 in 2 perpetual min_x 3 min_y 5 max_x 10 max_y 5 min_scale 1 max_scale 2

Perpetual Camera

You can loop any background on Spotlight. There are a few requirements for the loop to work smoothly: 1. Add “loop” after the background name;2. Set the perpetual movement for the camera;3. If you have characters or overlays in the scene, set their movement as perpetual. Their finished coordinates must be the same as the camera’s if you want to keep the character constantly on the screen.  For this your character and camera should have the same starting and finishing X coordinate.<h4>Example:</h4>@bg out_pasture_midday_1 loop and camera at 3 5 and cam move 15 5 in 3 perpetual@MC (run-athletic-neutral-loop) face right at 3 0.27 and MC (run-athletic-neutral-loop) move 15 0.27 in 3 perpetual

There are two types of Character’s names on the editor: Script name and Display name. Script name is the one you will use when you code the chapter.Display name is what the reader will see while reading your story on the app.They can be the same or different. Allow a reader to type their name with the “rename title” command. This command will change the Display name. For other characters to address your main character in the dialogs, use the default Script name in [ ]. For example, your main character’s Script name is Anna, so in dialogs you should use [Anna] to refer to MC. Naming and basic customization

Before the code &quot;@select role&quot; use &quot;@choose&quot; then pick the gender and the body part to customize it. You can disable the customization of any of the features by adding “disable” after the selected feature. That way you can provide hair and lipstick customization in the middle of the story. To turn on the disabled features, write the same code but change “disable” to “enable”.Notice: Once you start adding features to different parts this particular parametra will turn to show only the features you added. Means, if you want to add some particular hair to your customization then you have to add all other hairs, otherwise the reader won&#x27;t have any choice. Advanced customization

Characters and animations

There is a special code, allowing the creator to adjust other characters to the reader’s customization.<h3>Example:</h3>@Maple copycolor Hair to mouth defaultcolor color_1639128048That means that Maple’s lipstick will match her hair color. The default color must be set in case the mouth and hair colors don’t match.

Copycolor

In the new line, start typing “@NewCharacterName” then copy it and paste on another new line. The character creation window will pop up. You’ll be able to select the body type for the new character.

Create a new character in the script

Use the “become” command to duplicate characters.<h3>Example:</h3>@Molly2 become MollyMeans that character Molly2 will get features and the current outfit of Molly.

Clone your character

A new line with a character name should always start with @. Use “and” or “then” to add extra characters to the scene. Character’s position is connected to the perspective of a background. Use the “Shift” key on your keyboard to move characters higher or lower than the horizon line. Use “offset” to mark this position in the code. “Offset 2” format means to shift up and down on the Y axis, which will not affect the size of the character. A positive number means upward, and a negative number means downward.You can see all coordinates in the upper left corner of the previewer.<h4>Example:</h4>@Maple (flirt-wink-atscreen) at 12.61 1.29 scale 0.994 offset -6.18 face right <div class="media-wrap image-wrap"><img src="https://d2fhm6u6caqs1u.cloudfront.net/spt/public/files/10026/20221013/sys_common_file_143154_1.png"/></div><h4>Tips:</h4>● Whenever you move, adjust the offset, or scale the camera, characters, objects, speech bubbles, the recent coordinates of your directing are automatically copied to the clipboard. You just paste them to the place they have to be written.

Spotting

Characters have the same movement logic as the camera. If you don’t set the exact walking animation, the character will use “walk-neutral”. All characters start the idle animation after they finish walking. You can manually change it to any other animation adding “idle animation_name” after the final coordinates and time.If you have a complex movement, first they walk to the position one then they move to the position two, you should disable the default idle adding &quot;idle none&quot; to the character moving command. <h4>Example:</h4>@Maple move 7.73 0.44 in 1 @Maple (walk-confident) move 4.73 0.84 in 2.3 @Girl move 2 3 idle idle-bouncehands-happy-loopMeans that Girl will start the idle-bouncehands-happy-loop animation after reaching the coordinates. Walking and moving

Check the right panel inside the chapter for the animation catalog. 1. Wide preview mode2. Add item to favorites3. Bigger preview of the animation.Click on the animation name to copy it to the script.<h2>Additional character animation commands:</h2><h3>Rate</h3>Use the “rate” command to change the animation speed. 1 is default. The higher the number you use, the faster the animation will play. You can use the ending frame of any animation by setting the rate to 1000.<h4>Example:</h4>@Emma (react-repulsed) at 3.1 0.6 rate 1000 face right <h3>Duration &amp; Loop</h3>Using the “duration” command you can also control the playing time of the animation without changing the speed of it. You can loop or unloop all existing animations with “loop” and “unloop” commands.<h4>Example:</h4>@Emma (speak-happy-loop) unloop duration 0.5 Means that when Emma is playing the “speak-happy-loop” animation for 0.5 seconds. After 0.5 second the animation will stop playing, because you used “unloop” command. You can combine rate and duration and create different combinations of animations.<h4>Example:</h4>@Photographer (take-photo-happy-loop) duration 0.8 rate 3 unloop<h3>Mix</h3>Use the “mix” command at the end of the following animation, so all the animations of your character would be connected as if one animation flows into the next one.Important: not all animations work smoothly with the mix. Laying to sitting may not work well, and changing between the front and rear view. Please, preview your script before releasing.<h4>Example:</h4>@Girl (speak-greet-neutral)Hey! I&#x27;m [Eliza].@Girl (speak-think-neutral) mixI&#x27;m a student.@Girl (speak-flirt-playful) mixAnd I like reading.<h3>Note:</h3>Some animations last longer or shorter than 1 second. If you code several actions at once, it’s better to set the duration for characters who do the animation without moving.<h4>Example:</h4>@cam move 11.58 5.78 scale 4.1 in 1 and Maple (eyeroll-neutral) duration 1 and Tony move 11.54 1.21 in 1 and Lara (dance-club-happy-loop) duration 1<h3>Following a person or an object – target command</h3>There are some animations that can be used together with each other. Such as walk-holdhands-receive-happy or idle-carry-give-happy. Use the “target” command to link characters or to direct characters as overlays with various animations. <h4>Example:</h4>@Emma (walk-holdhands-receive-happy) at 1.56 0.47 face right and Zach (walk-holdhands-give-happy) at 3.17 -0.15 face right target Emma

Animations

Use the “interact” command to create more realistic hugs, kisses, carries on hands, and dancing. The &quot;interact&quot; code can only be attached to the character whose hands should be around another character. Don’t be alarmed if one of the characters suddenly becomes small and out of place. Their interact spotting and size would be different from their normal non-interact coordinates. So you have to spot them again or copy and paste their previous spotting after you give them a normal non-interact animation.It’s important to remember that the character who does the interact animation MUST be written on the same line as the character who receives the interaction and after the recipient. Every time you use and interact animation, you should make sure to write it in the script, otherwise it will reset automatically.Example:@Girl (kiss-makeout-happy-loop-rear) and Boy (kiss-makeout-happy-loop) face left at 9.35 0.91 interact GirlIn this particular animation Boy holds Girl&#x27;s back, that&#x27;s why &quot;interact&quot; is added to him. If you add &quot;interact&quot; to Girl&#x27;s animation the command won&#x27;t work, because Girl&#x27;s animation doesn&#x27;t have hands wrapping around another person&#x27;s body.

Characters' interactions

Use the “photo CharName” command for taking photo effect. The Spotlight Team recommends creating photo opportunities for our readers in the first chapters of the story, so they could share it online with their friends.Example:@photo Molly

● Character script names cannot contain spaces;● Outfit names cannot contain spaces;● Make your character disappear with a blink using the “fade out” command. Example: @Andy fade out;● Delete your character from the scene using the “hide” command. Example: @Andy hide;● Use a negative number of the scale parameter to flip characters upside down. Example: @Dolly scale -1.0

Change character’s features in the script

● Flipy yes / Flipy no. Flip your overlays vertically (for an upside down effect) using command “flipy yes” and “flipy no”;● Flipx yes / Flipx no. Flip your overlays horizontally using command “flipx yes” and “flipx no”;● Move. The “move” command is the same for all Spotlight assets. It animates the position changing of characters, objects, and camera;● Scale. Set the size of your overlay using the “scale” command;● Scale to. This is the animation command for changing the scaling of the overlays. You can set the time of the animation by adding “in T” in the end;● Pivot. If you want to animate the rotation of the overlays you need to set the central point. Anchor point or pivot by default is in the center of the overlay;● Rotate. Rotate overlays using the “rotate” command. By default, the pivot is in the center of the overlay. You can use positive and negative numbers for that;● Rotate to. This is the animation command allowing you to show the movement of the overlay. By default, the pivot is in the center of the overlay. You can set the time of the animation by adding “in T” in the end. For example, “rotate to 90 in 3” will rotate the overlay to 90 to the right in 3 seconds;● Transparency. By default, all overlay’s transparency is 1 (100%). Set overlay’s opacity with “transparency” command: transparency 0 - means that the overlay is invisible;● Transparency to. This is the animation command for changing the transparency of the overlays. You can set the time of the animation by adding “in T” in the end. For example, “transparency to 0.5 in 3” means that the overlay will become 50% transparent in 3 seconds;● Delay. This is the additional command that you can add to the main command code (any of the above). It holds the main command up from happening right away;● Remove. Delete overlays using “remove” + ID. You can use loop, perpetual, and repeat commands with all StaticObj. There are 4 ways of giving additional animations to overlays: ● Default. You don’t have to add anything. Character walks from point A to point B and stays there;● Loop. Character walks from point A to point B, after reaching point B it appears at point A again and walks to point B;● Perpetual. Character walks from point A to point B without reaching point B (use it for looping backgrounds. Check the looping background note to see an example);● Repeat. Character constantly moves back and forth between point A and point B.<h4>Example:</h4>@ovl 5 (magiclight_center_effect_001) at 3.37 1.49 flipy yes transparency 0.7 Means that overlay 5 is placed at 3.37 1.49 coordinates, it’s flipped vertically and it’s transparency is 70%.@ovl 6 (universa_doughnut_1) at 1 1.53 and @ovl 6 move 3.07 2.53 offset 4.61 in 2 repeat  Means that overlay 6 will repeatedly move back and forth between the mentioned coordinates.@remove 5@overlay 1 (mmo_egg_001) at 1 0 pivot 0.5 0.5 scale 1 transparency 1 and overlay 1 move 3 1 in 2 repeat and ovl 1 scale to 1.5 1.5 in 2 repeat 3 and ovl 1 transparency to 0.5 in 2 repeat 3Pivot 0.5 0.5 - means that the anchor of the ovl is in the center of it.It takes 2 seconds to move from the (1,0) coordinate to the (3,1) coordinate and then 2 seconds to go back (repeat type of looping). At the same time, the scale increases 1.5 times in 2 seconds and goes back to 2 on repeat, the transparency constantly changes from 0.5 to 1 in 2 seconds as well. Number 3 after “repeat” means that the action will be performed 3 times before it stops.@ovl 1 (universa_doughnut_3) at 3.34 1.37 and ovl 1 rotate to 360 in 3 perpetual Means that overlay 1 will constantly rotate around its center (default pivot).

Overlay animations & movements

Basically, any overlay can be used as a prop. Use the “target” command to bind overlays to characters and otherwise. Specify the part of the body of the character and the layer of targeting.<h4>Example:</h4>@ovl 5 (magiclight_center_effect_001) and Maple face right target ovl 5Means that Maple is bound to overlay 5 now. So, whenever you move overlay 5, Maple will automatically follow it.@Maple (read-phone-neutral) face right and  ovl 5 (magiclight_center_effect_001) target Maple part HandB layer BackMeans that overlay 5 is bound to Maple’s HandB now. So, whenever you move Maple, overlay 5 will automatically follow her hand that is further from the reader. You can target overlay to different parts of the character&#x27;s body, such as: ● HandA (front hand, use it for the static hand animations);● HandB (behind hand), use it for the static hand animations;● ShoulderA (front);● ShoulderB (behind);● DynamicA (front hand, use it for the dynamic animations);● DynamicB (behind, use it for the dynamic animations);● Head;● Body (belly and chest area);● FootA (front);● FootB (behind). So later the creator can move just one overlay and the rest will move accordingly. The “dynamic” additional code means that the in-built animation of overlay 1 will remain all the way.

Target overlays

The UI is attached to the screen, so wherever you move the camera, the UI will stay at the same place on the screen. UI image creation follows the overlay logic. UI or overlays that you can target on the screen

You can create text as the UI overlay. Here’s the list of UI text parameters:● at - determines the position of the UI text on the screen;● text - the content of the UI text;● scale - the size of the text;● pivot - determines its anchor position;● color - means the text color. Use “scene” between the “phonetext” and “begin” commands for  text messages to appear directly on the scene. All text effects are applicable to the text messages as well. “Tips” is a short message for a reader that will slide down from the top of the screen. You can set the speed of its appearance, duration, and how long it will take for it to disappear (delay). Tips

We recommend keeping all choices (for rare exceptions, e.g. certain timed choices) coming from the Main Character’s speech bubble. You can give names to the choices if you want to use them for branching later. Use [choicename] to refer to the player&#x27;s choice in the dialog. Or leave the choice nameless.All options in a choice have their specific ID that appears automatically. After you write “Option name” type the opening round bracket “(“ and the ID of the choice will appear automatically. You can set different parameters to the choices, such as: price, time, color.Make sure to use &lt;Default&gt; to the option that would be automatically selected after the timer is out, otherwise a user can get stuck at this choice. To make an option locked by default, set the time 0.1.You can set any time for the selected option. After the timer runs out the option will be locked and become unclickable.<h3>Premium choices</h3>Premium Choice (further referred to as PC) will obtain their specific color once you set the price. Dialog types

Make your preconditions easier using gains. Gain names can’t contain any spaces. Gains can be added or lost depending on the reader’s choices in your story. You can give numeral variables in the story. Set, add, and subtract number values of your variables. ❖ Create and set the default value of the variable:➢ Example: You want to make a variable named Love. The code to create and activate the variable would be:@var Love 0 Means, you created the variable and the starting value of this variable is 0.❖ Set variables:➢ @var Love=2 Means that the value of the variable Love is now equal to 2.❖ Add &amp; subtract variables:➢ @var VariableName ± valueExample: @ Love -1 means that the value of the variable Love is subtracted for 1 point.Example: @ Love +3 means that you added 3 points to the Love variable.❖ Show variables to your reader:➢ @var Love=10 @tips “You have [Love] points with Dylan 💘” The reader on the app will see “You have 10 points with Dylan 💘” Refer to variables in your branches using the following symbols:== equal to!= not equal to&gt; greater than &lt; less than &gt;= greater than or equal to&lt;= less than or equal to

Variables

Lovemeter is a point system with a special UI. The one that appears at the top of the screen when it&#x27;s activated. You can use it to encourage readers to collect more points with LI and unlock scenes. In community stories, readers won&#x27;t be able to receive gems for achieving a certain level, but an author can create some bonus scenes depending on the amount of points a reader earns. Every level is 100 points.<h4>Example:</h4>@var LOVE=0@.... and lovemeter +10 target LI save LOVE speed 100 duration 0.1That means that lovemeter will increase by 10, &quot;save LOVE&quot;, where LOVE is the variable you can use to branch the story. You can&#x27;t use lovemeter points directly in the script, so you need to save your variable every time you add a lovemeter. speed – means how fast the lovemeter scale above appears on the top of the screen. The bigger the number the faster it works.duration – shows how long the lovemeter scale would stay on the top of the screen. 1 is one second.

Use “if&#x27;&#x27; and “else if” commands to branch your story. To preview branches inside the &lt;preview&gt; code. You can combine different types of preconditioning using the “and&#x27;&#x27; command.You don’t have to delete &lt;preview&gt; after editing the branch content. Preconditions

You can make specific choices locked/unlocked depending on the condition you set. You can use variables and gains to show/unlock choices.
